Introduction
The question is, “I want to know about Allah.” This question reflects a deep desire to find truth. In Islam, Allah is the One true God. He is the Creator of everything, seen and unseen. To know Allah is to understand the purpose of life.
Who Is Allah in Islam?
Allah is not just a name. It refers to the eternal, all-powerful, and all-knowing God. He is unique and has no partners, children, or equals. Muslims worship only Him, as He alone is worthy of devotion.
Say, “He is Allah—One;
قُلْ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
Allah—the Sustainer.
ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ
He has never had offspring, nor was He born.
لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ
And there is none comparable to Him.”
وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌۢ
Quran 112:1–4
This short chapter captures Allah’s nature absolute, eternal, and beyond human comparison.
The 99 Names of Allah
To know Allah better, Muslims reflect on His 99 names, also known as Asma’ul Husna. These names describe His qualities, such as:
Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful)
Al-Hakeem (The Most Wise)
Al-Ghafoor (The Forgiving)
Each name helps us understand how Allah interacts with the world. For example, Ar-Razzaq means the Provider. He gives sustenance to all creatures, regardless of faith or background.
Knowing His names strengthens one’s love and connection to Allah.
Allah’s Role in Our Lives
Allah is not distant or disconnected. He listens to prayers and guides those who seek Him. Muslims believe that everything happens by His will. This belief brings peace during trials and gratitude during ease.
For example, when someone is in hardship, they call on Him by his name Al-Fattah (The Opener) for relief. This constant connection creates a strong bond between the Creator and His servant.
a woman amongst them was milking her breasts to feed and whenever she found a child amongst the
captives, she took it over her chest and nursed it (she had lost her child but later she found him) the
Prophet said to us, “Do you think that this lady can throw her son in the fire?” We replied, “No, if she
has the power not to throw it (in the fire).” The Prophet (ﷺ) then said, “Allah is more merciful to His
slaves than this lady to her son.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 5771 (Book 78, Hadith 30)
This Hadith shows Allah’s unmatched mercy and love for His creation.
