The question is, “what is tawakkul on Allah?”. Tawakkul on Allah means placing complete trust in Allah while taking all necessary actions. In Islam, it is a core principle of faith. True tawakkul combines reliance on Allah with personal effort and responsibility.

How do you place complete trust in Allah?

Tawakkul on Allah means placing complete trust and reliance on Allah while actively doing what is within your control. In Islam, it is a vital expression of faith, combining spiritual dependence with real-world effort.

The word “tawakkul” comes from the Arabic root “wakala,” which means to entrust or rely upon. When a Muslim practices tawakkul, they entrust their affairs to Allah, believing that He alone controls all outcomes. However, tawakkul does not mean inaction or passivity. It means you plan, prepare, and act, then leave the results to Allah.

Everything in the universe happens by the will of Allah. He is the ultimate controller of life, death, success, and failure. Understanding this brings deep inner peace. When you do your part and trust Allah with the rest, you learn to see the outcome, whether success or setback, as part of His divine wisdom.

Therefore, tawakkul means doing what is in your power, while firmly believing that Allah decides the results. You rely on Him for your life, future, safety, and provision. You let go of unnecessary worry because you know your affairs are in the hands of the Most Merciful.

Tawakkul mentioned in the Quran

The Quran strongly emphasizes tawakkul. In Surah Al-Imran (3:159), Allah says:

It is out of Allah’s mercy that you [O Prophet] have been lenient with them. Had you been cruel or hard-hearted, they would have certainly abandoned you. So pardon them, ask Allah’s forgiveness for them, and consult with them in [conducting] matters. Once you make a decision, put your trust in Allah. Surely Allah loves those who trust in Him.

Quran 3:159

This verse shows that tawakkul follows action. You act first, then rely on Allah for results. Islam does not support laziness or blind faith. Instead, it teaches balance, do your part and leave the rest to Allah.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also lived by this principle. When migrating to Medina, he planned carefully, but still trusted Allah for protection. This is a perfect example of true tawakkul.

[It does not matter] if you [believers] do not support him, for Allah did in fact support him when the disbelievers drove him out [of Mecca] and he was only one of two. While they both were in the cave, he reassured his companion, “Do not worry; Allah is certainly with us.” So Allah sent down His serenity upon the Prophet, supported him with forces you ˹believers˺ did not see, and made the word of the disbelievers lowest, while the Word of Allah is supreme. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

Quran 9:40

This verse shows that even after carefully planning the migration, including hiding in the cave of Thawr, the Prophet ﷺ still placed full trust in Allah. His words to Abu Bakr “Do not grieve; indeed, Allah is with us” are a direct expression of tawakkul in a moment of extreme danger. Allah protected them by miraculous means. As their enemies approached the cave, Allah caused a spider to weave a web across the entrance Seeing this, the pursuers assumed no one could be inside and turned away. This divine protection ensured their safety, despite the danger.

The beneifits of Tawakkul

Tawakkul also helps reduce anxiety and fear. When a believer knows Allah is in control, they find peace. They stop overthinking outcomes and focus on doing their best.

Moreover, tawakkul strengthens patience and resilience. In difficult times, it reminds you that Allah’s wisdom is beyond understanding. Every hardship carries a purpose and every delay holds benefit.

Conclusion

Tawakkul on Allah means trusting Him completely while doing your part with full effort. It reflects strong faith, emotional strength, and spiritual clarity. Practicing tawakkul on Allah throughout all walks of life, whether in times of happiness or difficulty, brings peace, stability, and closeness to Allah.
