Sunan Ibn Majah: Book 5, Hadith 624
narrated from Tamim Dari that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The first thing for which a person will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayer. If it is complete, then the voluntary (prayers) will also be recorded for him (as an increase). If it is not complete then Allah will say to His angels: ‘Look and see whether you find any voluntary prayers for My slave, and take them to make up what is lacking from his obligatory prayers.’ Then all his deeds will be reckoned in like manner.”
“ أَوَّلُ مَا يُحَاسَبُ بِهِ الْعَبْدُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ صَلاَتُهُ. فَإِنْ أَكْمَلَهَا كُتِبَتْ لَهُ نَافِلَةً. فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ أَكْمَلَهَا، قَالَ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ لِمَلاَئِكَتِهِ: انْظُرُوا، هَلْ تَجِدُونَ لِعَبْدِي مِنْ تَطَوُّعٍ؟ فَأَكْمِلُوا بِهَا مَا ضَيَّعَ مِنْ فَرِيضَتِهِ . ثُمَّ تُؤْخَذُ الأَعْمَالُ عَلَى حَسَبِ ذَلِكَ ” .

The above hadith is from the Sunan Ibn Majah collection of hadiths. The Sunan Ibn Majah holds a significant place as one of the six major books of hadith in Sunni Islamic tradition. Its compiler, Ibn Majah, completed this work in the 9th century, with his death occurring in 886 CE. The collection is extensive, featuring around 4,000 hadiths that provide guidance on diverse themes. These include core tenets of faith, the correct performance of religious rituals, ethical conduct, and rulings on social interactions. Although it is a respected compilation, it is generally accorded a lower rank in terms of overall authenticity when compared to the other five collections.
