Sunan Ibn Majah: Book 5, Hadith 190
narrated that Jabir bin Samurah As-Suwa’i said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Will you not form your rows as the angels form their rows before their Lord?’ We said: ‘How do the angels form their rows before their Lord?’ He said: ‘They complete the first row and they stand close of one another in the line (leaving no gaps between one another).’”

The above hadith is from the Sunan Ibn Majah collection of hadiths. Compiled by Ibn Majah in the 9th century, the Sunan is a respected collection that completes the list of the Kutub al-Sittah, the six major books of hadith in Sunni Islam. It contains an estimated 4,000 narrations that comprehensively cover the spectrum of Islamic life, including issues of doctrine, law, morality, and society. A key point of discussion among scholars is its comparative authenticity. It is often noted that this collection includes a subset of narrations that are classified as weak or da’if, which are largely absent from the more stringent compilations like the two Sahihs. Therefore, while it is an essential resource, its usage often requires additional verification.
