Sunan an-Nasa’i: Book 5, Hadith 20
“ أَوَّلُ مَا يُحَاسَبُ بِهِ الْعَبْدُ صَلاَتُهُ فَإِنْ كَانَ أَكْمَلَهَا وَإِلاَّ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ انْظُرُوا لِعَبْدِي مِنْ تَطَوُّعٍ فَإِنْ وُجِدَ لَهُ تَطَوُّعٌ قَالَ أَكْمِلُوا بِهِ الْفَرِيضَةَ ” .

The above hadith is from the Sunan an-Nasa’i collection of hadiths. Ahmad ibn Shu’ayb al-Nasa’i, a master of hadith sciences, gifted the Muslim world with his seminal work, the Sunan an-Nasa’i, in the 9th century.
