Sunan an-Nasa’i: Book 42, Hadith 55

It was narrated from Ibn ‘ Abbas that: Khalid bin Al-Walid said that he entered upon Maimunah bint Al-Harith, who was his maternal aunt, with the Messenger of Allah, and some meat of a mastigure was offered to the Messenger of Allah The Messenger of Allah would not eat anything until he knew what it was. One of the women said: “Why don’t you tell the Messenger of Allah what he is eating?” So she told him that it was the meat of a mastigure, and he stopped eating. Khalid said: “I asked the Messenger of Allah ‘Is it Haram?’ He said: “No but it is a food that is no9t known in the land of my people, and I find it distasteful.” Khalid said: ” I pulled it over toward myself and ate it, and the Messenger of Allah was watching me.” And Ibn Al-Asamm narrated it from Maimunah, and he was in her apartment.

Sunan an-Nasa’i: Book 42, Hadith 55

The above hadith is from the Sunan an-Nasa’i collection of hadiths. Ahmad ibn Shu’ayb al-Nasa’i, a master of hadith sciences, gifted the Muslim world with his seminal work, the Sunan an-Nasa’i, in the 9th century. This compilation is rightfully counted among the Kutub al-Sittah, the six books that are essential for any serious study of Sunni Islam. The text itself contains a vast repository of more than 5,700 hadiths, all focused on the documented words and deeds of the Prophet. The compiler’s renowned rigorous methodology ensured that only the most authentic reports were included, with weak or spurious narrations being systematically excluded. This scrupulous approach has earned the collection widespread acclaim as a model of authenticity.
