Sunan Abi Dawud: Book 5, Hadith 43

Narrated ‘Abd Allah b. Shaqiq: I asked ‘Aishah: Did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) pray in the Duha? She replied: No, except when he returned from his journey. I then asked: Did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) recite the surahs combining each other? She said: He would do so in the mufassal surahs.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُصَلِّي الضُّحَى فَقَالَتْ لاَ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَجِيءَ مِنْ مَغِيبِهِ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقْرِنُ بَيْنَ السُّورَتَيْنِ قَالَتْ مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ ‏.‏

This hadith is from the Sunan Abi Dawud collection of hadiths. Sunan Abi Dawud constitutes a seminal work within the Kutub al-Sittah (the Six Books), the canonical compendiums of hadith in Sunni Islam. Authored by Abu Dawud Sulayman ibn al-Ash’ath al-Sijistani (817–889 CE), the collection is systematically organized into kitabs (books) that primarily address matters of fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).
