Sahih Muslim: Book 56, Hadith 12

‘A’isha reported in connection with the words of Allah, the Exalted: ” He who is rich should abstain, and he who is poor may reasonably eat (out of it)” that this was revealed in relation to the guardian of an orphan who is poor; he may get out of that what is reasonable keeping in view his own status of solvency.

وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى ‏{‏ وَمَنْ كَانَ غَنِيًّا فَلْيَسْتَعْفِفْ وَمَنْ كَانَ فَقِيرًا فَلْيَأْكُلْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ‏}‏ قَالَتْ أُنْزِلَتْ فِي وَلِيِّ الْيَتِيمِ أَنْ يُصِيبَ مِنْ مَالِهِ إِذَا كَانَ مُحْتَاجًا بِقَدْرِ مَالِهِ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ ‏.‏

The above hadith is from the Sahih Muslim collection of hadiths. Sahih Muslim is a classic compilation of hadith that carries immense weight in Sunni Islamic theology. The scholar Muslim ibn al-Ḥajjāj is the compiler behind this vital work, which he brought to completion around 875 CE. It is rightly classified as one of the Kutub al-Sittah, the six books that constitute the most reliable hadith collections in Islam. The complete set includes the works of al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa’i, and ibn Majah.
