Sahih Muslim: Book 37, Hadith 88
قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم اصْطَنَعَ خَاتَمًا
مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَكَانَ يَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ فِي بَاطِنِ كَفِّهِ إِذَا لَبِسَهُ فَصَنَعَ النَّاسُ ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ جَلَسَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ
فَنَزَعَهُ فَقَالَ ” إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَلْبَسُ هَذَا الْخَاتِمَ وَأَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ مِنْ دَاخِلٍ ” . فَرَمَى بِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ
” وَاللَّهِ لاَ أَلْبَسُهُ أَبَدًا ” . فَنَبَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ . وَلَفْظُ الْحَدِيثِ لِيَحْيَى .

Imam Muslim ibn al-Ḥajjāj is the scholar responsible for the esteemed compilation titled Sahih Muslim, which he finished around the year 875. This book is a critical component of the Kutub al-Sittah.
