Sahih Muslim: Book 26, Hadith 14

Abu Huraira reported: Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) found an old man walking between his two sons supported by them, whereupon Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) said: What is the matter with him? He (the narrator) said: Allah’s Messenger, they are his sons and there is upon him the (fulfilment) of the vow, whereupon Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) said: Ride, old man, for Allah is not in need of you and your vow.

وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ، وَابْنُ، حُجْرٍ قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، – وَهُوَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ – عَنْ عَمْرٍو، – وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو – عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَدْرَكَ شَيْخًا يَمْشِي بَيْنَ ابْنَيْهِ يَتَوَكَّأُ عَلَيْهِمَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏”‏ مَا شَأْنُ هَذَا ‏”‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ ابْنَاهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ نَذْرٌ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏”‏ ارْكَبْ أَيُّهَا الشَّيْخُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنْكَ وَعَنْ نَذْرِكَ ‏”‏ ‏.‏ وَاللَّفْظُ لِقُتَيْبَةَ وَابْنِ حُجْرٍ ‏.‏

The above hadith is from the Sahih Muslim collection of hadiths. The value of Sahih Muslim in the Islamic world cannot be overstated. Compiled by the expert hadith scholar Muslim ibn al-Ḥajjāj and completed in the ninth century, it has been a trusted resource for over a millennium. It is one of the six canonical collections, the Kutub al-Sittah, which are Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawood, Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Sunan an-Nasa’i, and Sunan ibn Majah.
