Sahih Muslim: Book 12, Hadith 224

‘A’isha (Allah be pleased with her) said: Three are the decions (of the Shari’ah that we have come to know) through Barira. The people gave her sadaqa and she offered us as gift. We made a mention of it to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), whereupon he said: It is a sadaqa for her and a gift for you; so eat it.

حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، – رضى الله عنها – قَالَتْ كَانَتْ فِي بَرِيرَةَ ثَلاَثُ قَضِيَّاتٍ كَانَ النَّاسُ يَتَصَدَّقُونَ عَلَيْهَا وَتُهْدِي لَنَا فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ ‏
“‏ هُوَ عَلَيْهَا صَدَقَةٌ وَلَكُمْ هَدِيَّةٌ فَكُلُوهُ ‏”‏ ‏.‏

The above hadith is from the Sahih Muslim collection of hadiths. Compiled by the respected scholar Muslim ibn al-Ḥajjāj in the 9th century, specifically around 875, Sahih Muslim is a cornerstone of Islamic literature. It is one of the six primary books of hadith, the Kutub al-Sittah, which are essential for Sunni Islamic doctrine and law. This particular collection is often placed second only to Sahih al-Bukhari in terms of its authenticity and authority.
