Riyad as-Salihin: Book 17, Hadith 278

Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (ﷺ) heard a person lauding another person or praising him too much. Thereupon he said, “You killed the man,” or he said, “You ruined the man.”.

وعن أبي موسى الأشعري رضي الله عنه قال‏:‏ سمع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم رجلا يُثني على رجل ويُطريه في المدحة، فقال‏:‏ ‏”‏أهلكتم، أو قطعتم ظهر الرجل‏”‏ ‏(‏‏(‏متفق عليه‏)‏‏)‏‏.‏ (23).‏
