The Qadr of Allah refers to Allah’s perfect knowledge, will, and control over everything that happens in the universe.
What Does the Qadr of Allah Mean?
Qadr means “divine decree” or “predestination.” In Islam, it refers to Allah’s eternal knowledge and control over all things. Nothing escapes His will, wisdom, or timing. Muslims believe that every event, good or bad, happens by Allah’s permission. His Qadr includes every detail, from creation to outcome.
Belief in Qadr Is a Pillar of Faith
The Qadr of Allah is one of the six pillars of iman (faith).
Ibn ‘Abbas narrated: “I was behind the Prophet(s.a.w) one day when he said: ‘O boy! I will teach you a statement: Be mindful of Allah and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him before you. When you ask, ask Allah, and when you seek aid, seek Allah’s aid. Know that if the entire creation were to gather together to do something to benefit you- you would never get any benefit except that Allah had written for you. And if they were to gather to do something to harm you- you would never be harmed except that Allah had written for you. The pens are lifted and the pages are dried.'”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi: Book 37, Hadith 102
Without belief in Qadr, faith remains incomplete. Allah knows what has happened, what is happening, and what will happen. His knowledge covers all things, big and small. The Qadr of Allah is rooted in His infinite wisdom and complete understanding.
Qadr and Human Free Will
Many ask: if Allah has written everything, do we still have free will?
Yes, Islam teaches that we have choices. wevWe are responsible for our actions. Hoer, Allah already knows what choices we will make. His Qadr doesn’t force us but rather reflects His perfect knowledge.

Life can feel unpredictable. When hardship strikes, we ask, “Why me?” But belief in the Qadr of Allah brings peace. It reminds us that everything happens for a reason, even if we don’t understand it.
Indeed, We have created everything, perfectly preordained.
