Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal: Book 1, Hadith 75

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that Fatimah came to Abu Bakr and ‘Umar to ask for her inheritance from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). They said: I was sitting with Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq, the successor of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), one month after the death of the Prophet (ﷺ) and he was telling a story, then the call went out among the people, `As-salatu jami’ah (prayer is about to begin),` and it was the first time that this call of `as-salatu jami’ah` went out to the people. The people gathered and he ascended the minbar, which was something that was made for him to deliver speeches, and it was the first speech he gave in Islam. He praised and glorified Allah, then he said: O People, I wish that someone else could have taken care of this for me, for if you compare my way to the way of your Prophet (ﷺ), I cannot be like him, for he was protected from the shaitan and the revelation used to come to him from heaven.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا جَاءَتْ أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا تَطْلُبُ مِيرَاثَهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَا إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنِّي لَا أُورَثُ‏.‏
