Jami` at-Tirmidhi: Book 48, Hadith 203

Zaid bin Arqam said that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to say: “O Allah, indeed I seek refuge in You from laziness, helpless old age, and stinginess (Allāhumma innī a`ūdhu bika minal-kasali wal-`ajzi wal-bukhl).” And with this chain, from the Prophet (ﷺ), that he used to seek refuge from senility and the punishment of the grave.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ الأَحْوَلُ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، رضى الله عنه قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ‏
“‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكَسَلِ وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْبُخْلِ ‏”‏ ‏.‏
وَبِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَتَعَوَّذُ مِنَ الْهَرَمِ وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ ‏.‏ قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ‏.‏

The above hadith is from the Jami` at-Tirmidhi collection of hadiths. Compiled in the 9th century by the esteemed Islamic scholar Imam Abu Isa Muhammad ibn Isa al-Tirmidhi, the Jami` at-Tirmidhi is a foundational collection of hadith. It holds a position of immense value within Sunni Islam as one of the six canonical books known as the Kutub al-Sittah. This revered set also includes the works of al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, al-Nasa’i, and ibn Majah.
