Jami` at-Tirmidhi: Book 47, Hadith 275
“ إِذَا قَضَى اللَّهُ فِي السَّمَاءِ أَمْرًا ضَرَبَتِ الْمَلاَئِكَةُ بِأَجْنِحَتِهَا خُضْعَانًا لِقَوْلِهِ كَأَنَّهَا سِلْسِلَةٌ عَلَى صَفْوَانٍ فَإِذَا فُزِّعَ عَنْ قُلُوبِهِمْ قَالُوا مَاذَا قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ قَالُوا الْحَقَّ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْكَبِيرُ قَالَ وَالشَّيَاطِينُ بَعْضُهُمْ فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ ” . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .

The above hadith is from the Jami` at-Tirmidhi collection of hadiths. Imam al-Tirmidhi’s Jami’ is a seminal 9th-century work and an integral part of the Kutub al-Sittah.
