The last ten nights of Ramadan are a special time. They are the most important nights of the whole year. These nights are full of Allah’s mercy and forgiveness, and they offer a chance for rewards that are hard to imagine. One of the best ways to seize this opportunity is through giving charity in the last ten nights of Ramadan. This is because one of these nights is Laylat al-Qadr, also known as the Night of Decree.

Laylat al-Qadr

Laylat al-Qadr is a night so powerful that Allah describes it in the Quran as being better than a thousand months.

Allah says in the Quran:

“Laylat al-Qadr is better than a thousand months.”

Quran 97:3

A thousand months adds up to more than 83 years. This is longer than most people live. This means any good deed you do on this special night is better than doing that same deed every single night for 83 years.

We don’t know exactly which night is Laylat al-Qadr. It could be any of the last ten. This is why the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ told us to work hard in worship during all of them.

The Prophet’s wife, Aisha, reported:

“Aisha: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) used to practice I`tikaf in the last ten nights of Ramadan and used to say, “Look for
the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan.”

Sahih al-Bukhari: Book 32, Hadith 7

The Power of Giving Sadaqah in These Nights

Sadaqah means giving charity freely to help others. It is one of the best deeds you can do. The reward for giving sadaqah is already greater during Ramadan. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would reach the peak in generosity in the month of Ramadan (Sahih al-Bukhari 6: Book 1, Hadith 6). But during the last ten nights, that reward can become even bigger, especially if it falls on Laylat al-Qadr.

Think about giving a small amount each night.

  • If you give $1 each night for the ten nights, and one of those nights is Laylat al-Qadr, that single $1 donation is recorded as if you gave £1 every month for over 83 years.
  • That one dollar could be rewarded as if you gave more than $1,000.

Now, think about giving a little more, like £5 or £10 each night. You could even set up a small, automatic donation for each of the last ten nights. This way, you make sure you don’t miss Laylat al-Qadr. This shows that small, simple actions, when done regularly, can have huge value with Allah.

The Prophet’s wife, Aisha, also reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately and know that your deeds will not make you enter Paradise, and that the most beloved deed to Allah is the most regular and constant even if it were little.”

Sahih al-Bukhari: Book 81, Hadith 53

Why You Should Consider Giving Zakat in the Last Ten Nights

Zakat is a different type of charity. It is a required act of worship for every Muslim who has wealth above a certain amount. While you must pay your Zakat at some point, choosing to pay it during the last ten nights of Ramadan is a very good decision.

Here’s why giving Zakat in these nights is a powerful opportunity:

  • You fulfill an important pillar of Islam.
  • You help people in need at a time that is already blessed.
  • If your payment falls on Laylat al-Qadr, the reward for this obligatory charity is multiplied beyond what we can imagine.

Zakat is always good, but giving it in these final nights combines your duty with the chance for enormous extra blessings.

An Opportunity That Comes Once a Year

We are not promised that we will see these last ten nights again. Many people who were with us last Ramadan are no longer here. These nights are a precious gift. They are an invitation from Allah to invest in our future in the hereafter while we still have the chance.

A small amount, even just $1, given with a sincere heart, could outweigh mountains of good deeds if it is given on Laylat al-Qadr. So, give during these nights. Do not worry if your donation feels small. Do not worry if no one knows about it. Allah sees your action, and He is the one who multiplies the reward.

As Allah says in the Quran:

“So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it.”

Quran 99:7

May Allah allow us to reach Laylat al-Qadr, accept our good deeds and charity, and multiply our rewards beyond measure.
