The dua for repentance of major sins holds deep value in Islam. It is more than just words. It reflects sincere regret and hope for Allah’s mercy. When a believer sins, they are not lost. Islam offers many ways to return to Allah. One of the most powerful ways is through two rak‘ahs of voluntary prayer followed by a heartfelt dua.

Hadith on Repentance through Action

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught a powerful method for seeking forgiveness. It combines physical worship with sincere prayer:

There is not any slave of Allah who commits a sin, then he perfects his purification and stands to pray two Rak’ahs of prayer, then seeks Allah’s forgiveness, except that Allah will forgive him.

Hisn al-Muslim 140

This hadith shows that repentance includes both action and dua. The believer must:

  1. Perform wudu with care.
  2. Pray two rak‘ahs sincerely.
  3. Make dua asking for forgiveness.
